Democratizing Data

Data collection is almost always designed by experts who also dictate its use. The process is usually extractive, with little interaction between respondents and experts. It serves mainly to produce research, which may inform policy, in ways that experts deem relevant to respondent's lives. Participatory tracking is a digital tool which enables respondents to choose the data they would like to collect, and empowers them to analyze and act on their own data.
