The Bihar Rural Livelihoods (JEEViKA) Project is a World Bank assisted community-driven, anti-poverty project implemented by the Government of Bihar, one of India’s poorest states. It attempts to reduce poverty and enhance gender equality by forming a network of women’s Self-Help Groups to roll out a variety of interventions, such as access to low cost credit, food security, and nutrition programs. From 2007, the project has mobilized 1.7 million women and plans to scale its operation to cover 12.5 million households by 2022. The Social Observatory has worked in collaboration with JEEViKA since 2010.
