Shruti Majumdar

Shruti Majumdar is a Sociologist with the Social Observatory (SO). She works on gender, poverty and labor market issues in South and Central Asia, and the Middle East. Her primary responsibility with the SO is to design and lead large-n qualitative evaluations of World Bank assisted livelihoods projects. She has conducted extensive fieldwork in India, examining the effect of the Bihar Rural Livelihoods Project (BRLPS), on multiple dimensions of women’s empowerment. At the World Bank, she has also led ethnographic studies on women’s livelihoods projects in rural Uzbekistan, legal aid programmes for Syrian refugees in Jordan and impact evaluations of large scale anti-poverty projects in South Asia. Shruti holds a Ph.D. and M.A. in Sociology from Brown University, and a B.A. in Sociology from Lady Shri Ram College for Women, Delhi University.
